Spring, summer, winter, fall – Mount Desert Island offers a wide variety of activities, including hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, touring, and cross-country skiing! There are mountain peaks with spectacular views and 27 miles of groomed carriage trails. It’s also fun to roam around Bar Harbor’s shopping areas, dine at great restaurants, and visit Southwest Harbor or Northeast. Each town brings a different style and character.
Acadia National Park is a stunning national treasure on the coast of Maine. This on-line vacation guide covers some of the best places to see in Acadia as well as information on towns and villages, from Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island to Winter Harbor on the Schoodic Peninsula. Wherever you choose to explore, the views are spectacular and nature abounds. No wonder this is one of the most visited national parks in the United States.
Sweetfern Meadow, located on the quiet, western side of Bar Harbor, is, as of 2019, not currently available for rent. It’s located on 5 private wooded acres, is a great retreat, and is not far from all points on the island! There are 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully appointed kitchen, and a picturesque screen porch. The house is less than 15 minutes from Acadia’s Hull’s Cove Welcome Center and about 10 minutes from carriage trail access.
